UVic Physics and Astronomy
The Medical Physics program at UVic is accredited through the Commission on the Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP, www.campep.org ) and is jointly offered through the University of Victoria department of Physics and Astronomy and the British Columbia Cancer Agency - Vancouver Island Centre. Within these pages you'll finds links to our current research and teaching interests, faculty and personnel, facilities, as well as relevant student info. We hope you enjoy browsing the site!

Vancouver Island Centre
Welcome to the Department of Medical Physics, BC Cancer Agency,
Vancouver Island Centre (VIC) in Victoria, British Columbia. We are an
enthusiastic group providing physics support to the Radiation Therapy
Program at VIC, as well as pursuing a number of wide ranging research
interests. We have strong connections, via adjunct staff appointments,
with the department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of
Victoria (UVIC). We have a number of UVIC Physics and Astronomy students
from the co-op program and also from the graduate program in Medical
Physics doing project work in our department. UVIC also has a full time
medical physics faculty member (Dr. Andrew Jirasek) who spends a
significant portion of his time at VIC working on collaborative projects
with our group.
We have state-of-the-art radiotherapy equipment. We are also lucky
enough to have 3 dedicated research laboratories in the Physics
Department and easy access to treatment planning, electronics, mould
room, and machine shop facilities.
We're a friendly, easy-going bunch here (it's the west-coast mentality),
and we enjoy good rapport with the other disciplines involved in
radiation therapy. This greatly enhances the range of research
opportunities available to us.
